A Song For My Wife.
March 25, 2009 In Uncategorized

This song is based on a true story of the final night of our last big tour in England when Petra and I met (some of you were there that night) and the rest, as they say, is history…

ONLY YOU

Please let me know what you think.

Lyrics:

When he told you then you were beautiful with your hair cold and wet and your skin made of wool it was true. His world spinned around you.

With the rain falling down on this small english town, you sat in the puddles as the applause had died down and you knew, it was over for you.

Inside all the fans were buying drinks for the band the tour now over, and the end was at hand the stars in your eyes surrounded the man who came out in the rain to hold your cold hands and tell you, if only you knew.

How you’d changed everything, all the joy that you bring. How his frozen heart had awoken to spring. How your smile and sighs and laughter and cries had melted the ice that once covered his eyes and he knew it was now only you.

And as he wiped the warm rain from your eyes from the tears and the pain that had dropped from the skies, you could see how he said it would be.

Some lifetime from now you would see him again, he solemnly vowed that this was not the end of this spree and couldn’t you see

That something had happened that couldn’t be planned, but you sadly said that he didn’t understand. The stars in your eyes surrounded the man who came out in the rain to hold your cold hands and warm you. If only he knew…

How he changed everything, all the joy that he brings. How your frozen heart had awoken to spring. How his smile and sighs and laughter and cries had melted the ice that once covered your eyes and you knew it could finally be true for you.

So he promised his life in the cold dark of night and from that moment forward you dreamed of a life for you two and all the things you would do.

and the years from thereafter were filled up with laughter they passed you both by faster and faster and as they blew through you two, how sweet was the view

To see how it all had strangely began with an evening of music that no one had planned and the stars in your eyes surrounded the man who was singing and playing for all of the fans but in truth, he was playing for you.

and how you’d changed everthing, all the joy that you bring, how his frozen heart had awoken to spring, how your smile and sighs and laughter and cries had melted the ice that once covered his eyes and he knew it was now only you…only you.

I remember that night only too well. I took care of the merch because I had to send Elspeth off into the ladies loo to take care of Petra who was beside herself with grief. I was beside myself with grief later when I realised that me and Willy had to share a room at the Hen and Chickens with Oliver. Yuk. Helen, Simon and Rosie managed to bunk up and leave 2 poor unsuspecting foxy young rock chics with him. We also had to take him home the next day in the car. I thnk we were being punished for something.

As for the song – you are such a smoothie!

That is so nice…I remember spending a fair bit of that night in the car park hugging that tearful soul who’s heart was breaking…I had a wounded bird in my hand…….now look at how that bird can fly!!

Thanks for the comments, Guys! It’s nice to be able to share a song with a meaning and history that so many good friends can remember and understand. We have a history and connections now with one another that will last the rest of our lives.

Robbie, this is a very beautiful song and I am so proud I have such talented brother in law who loves my sister so much. The words are great. I remember that night (I think) as Petra left me with loads of strangers to handle her BBQ at her place which I ended up doing all myself with one of her friends (we also had to buy the food), yet it was Petra who invited us… So after making all the food, Petra came out of the shower, said hi to everyone, had one drink (mind you she was late coming anyway) and then after about an hour said to all – well I have got a prior arrangement so now I have to go – Hanka will sort you out… needless to say, it was worth it, but we were all rather surprised and stunned of such an unsual BBQ party.
Due to this song, we discovered with Jason that he knows Petra and also Paul and Dee. the world is small.
Well done for this song. It comes from the bottom of your heart and that is why it is extra special.
